The purpose of Cardiac Rehabilitation is to help patients get mobilized and to assess their capacity for physical exertion and for resuming other activities of life and daily living. It begins the reconditioning process that is essential to regaining health and independence as fully as possible. After a heart procedure, cardiac rehabilitation is often begun in the hospital. Patients undergo a series of carefully monitored exercises. Care also takes place on the cardiac hospital floors. Rehab is often continued after discharge at Lourdes Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation program at LourdesCare at Cherry Hill. Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is also offered for patients whose physicians have suggested they begin a program of treatment to increase heart capacity.
Whether offered in the inpatient or outpatient setting, cardiac rehabilitation takes place under the medical direction of an experienced cardiologist and a team of therapists and nurses. They work together to help patients resume activity safely and move toward a healthier lifestyle. Patients undergo a series of carefully monitored exercises.
Education regarding ongoing exercise, nutrition and cardiac risk-factor modifications is an important part of this care. The program is custom-tailored for each patient and paced according to his or her condition and capabilities. Family members may also attend during this care to gain an understanding of the patients safe range of activity, recommended goals and need for follow-up cardiac rehabilitation.
At LourdesCare, the cardiac rehabilitation program benefits from the close proximity to Lourdes Cardiology Services physicians, lab and radiology services. Free, easily-accessible parking makes the location a convenient space to complete a cardiac rehabilitation program.
