New Gastroenterologist Joins Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County

WILLINGBORO, NJ—A gastroenterologist nationally recognized for her research and community outreach has returned to practice at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County.

Linda R. Miller, MD, FACP, spent most of her career on the West Coast, but recently returned to the hospital where she first began practicing medicine.

Dr. Miller specializes in treating both upper and lower gastrointestinal tract diseases. She is a strong advocate for colorectal cancer prevention.

Dr. Miller held academic position at Louisiana State University in Gastroenterology. It was in New Orleans where Dr. Miller became an honorary citizen for her volunteer work and teaching. She subsequently served as a gastroenterologist and Chief of Endoscopy at Dignity Health, Dominican Hospital, in Santa Cruz, CA.

Board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Miller completed her internal medicine fellowship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Miller earned her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine, and her bachelor’s degree from Temple University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Miller is active in community outreach. She volunteered for medical mission trips to Tanzania and Nicaragua and volunteered her medical services at free health clinics and social service agencies.

Dr. Miller is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Medical Association. She has served as a state delegate to the Santa Cruz County Medical Society; as president of San Juan County Medical Society in New Mexico; and as a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society.

Dr Miller has received numerous awards and honors. These include the Fellow’s Research Award from the American Gastroenterology Association; a scholarship from the Gorgas Institute for Global Health; and the Merck Index Award for laboratory research.

Dr. Miller’s research on Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis has been published in academic medical journals. Currently, Dr Miller is involved in a NASH (Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis) study which targets fatty liver disease and obesity. Locally, Dr. Miller is working on “best practices” for improving the quality of colon cancer colonoscopy screenings.
