Lourdes Health Foundation Honors Lourdes Physician Dr. Sean McMillan with the Healing Spirit Award

McMillan, Sean DOLourdes Health Foundation has chosen Sean McMillan, DO,  FAOAO, as one of two recipients of its 2016 Healing Spirit Award. The annual award honors a  Lourdes physician for his or her compassion, dedication to patients and years of service. Dr. McMillan is chief of Orthopedics and chief of Surgery at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County and Director of Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Lourdes Medical Associates.

The 2016 award will be presented to Dr. McMillan on April 2 at the Lourdes Health Foundation’s annual fundraising gala and silent auction, “The Dance 2016–Copacabana.” Proceeds from the event, which will be held at Vie in Philadelphia, will benefit Lourdes community programs and services. Honorary Chairpersons Celeste and John Canuso, and more than 400 regional medical and business leaders, will be in attendance.

“I’m surprised and honored to receive the Healing Spirit award,” said Dr. McMillan. “Along with my Lourdes team, I work to make a difference in the lives of our patients. This award confirms that our patients are positively impacted and I’m humbled by that.”

A Gloucester County resident and a native of Sayreville, Dr. McMillan, joined Lourdes in 2011. Prior to Lourdes, Dr. McMillan performed a fellowship at the University of Massachusetts, specializing in hip, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, as well as shoulder replacement.

Throughout his career, Dr. McMillan has actively served his community and hospital. Dr. McMillan serves on Lourdes Medical Associates’ Physician Advisory Council and the Lourdes Burlington Perioperative Committee. He also serves as an associate faculty member for Rowan University-School of Osteopathic Medicine’s Orthopedic Residency Program and has served on the Arthroscopy Association of North America Ethics and Standards Committee.

Board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. McMillan performed his residency in orthopedics at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in New York, as well as at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. McMillan earned his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his bachelor’s degree from The College of New Jersey.

In 2014, Dr. McMillan received the highly honorable Fellow Award of The American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO). The award granted to members of the surgical field who have made an outstanding contribution to the healing arts and to the practice of Orthopedic Surgery research.

Dr. McMillan has been named a Top Doc for Kids by SJ magazine. Working as a physician for local high school football teams, Dr. McMillan provides team medical coverage for Holy Cross High School, as well as Bordentown High School and Florence High School. He also provides orthopedic care to many high school athletes attending Pemberton and Northern Burlington schools. This past baseball season, Dr. McMillan served as team physician for South Jersey’s Camden Riversharks.

Dr. McMillan also enjoys working closely with patients who are in the military.   “We serve a large military population.   Some need physical fitness tests to qualify for deployment.   Others may have an injury that needs surgery.   I’m honored to serve the men and women who serve our country.”

While Dr. McMillan is grateful that his years of service at Lourdes are being recognized, when it comes to the Healing Spirit award, Dr. McMillan asks to recognize those who support him.   “My wife, my children, all my family and friends, and my Lourdes team are the ones who help make this award possible.   They give me energy, make me tick, and I always want to make them proud.”

Dr. McMillan enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and his extended family.
