Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County Expands Vascular Services

Patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and other vascular conditions can now get advanced treatment at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County.

Procedures are performed in the hospital’s new interventional radiology/special procedures suite. The suite features state-of-the-art equipment that provides the physician with crisp, detailed imagery while delivering a much smaller dose of radiation to the patient. A large flat-panel monitor can display multiple images from different modalities, including prior studies. Imagery manipulation provides even more fine analysis.

Lourdes interventional cardiologist Adam Levine, DO, is leading the Vascular service at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County. Dr. Levine has extensive training in peripheral vascular diseases and structural heart disease, including valve replacement.

“Offering the latest technological advances allows us to better evaluate, diagnose and treat our vascular patients,” said Dr. Levine. “What’s more, we can keep our patients needing advanced care local rather than sending them to another facility–allowing us to better serve the community.”

PAD affects millions of Americans. Risk factors for PAD include smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, being 50 or older, and a personal or family history of heart disease or stroke.

Diagnostic procedures performed include arterial ultrasound, computed tomography (CT scan), vein mapping and aortagraphy (an invasive test using dye that allows the physician to visualize blood flow and structural abnormalities of the aorta).

Treatment options include atherectomy (removing plaque from blood vessels using special catheters), angioplasty and stent placement, if needed. New drug-covered angioplasty balloons allow Dr. Levine and his team to open a blocked vessel while medication is absorbed into the vessel lining, alleviating the need for a stent.

At Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, Dr. Levine sees patients Monday mornings in the Professional East Building, 1113 Hospital Drive, Suite 202. To make an appointment, call 609-835-3550.
