Lourdes Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Atiq Rehman Talks Latest Advances in Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery

Open heart surgery can be a life-saving, but invasive, procedure. Now, many types of cardiac surgeries can be performed without a large chest incision and lengthy recovery.

“Traditional open-heart surgery involves making a long cut down the center of the chest and breaking the breastbone (sternum) to expose the heart,” said Lourdes Director for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Atiq Rehman, MD, FACS. “Sternum-sparing surgery uses only a few small incisions, resulting in less pain and a faster return to the life you enjoy.”

Dr. Rehman will discuss sternum-sparing surgery and the latest advances in minimally invasive cardiac surgery at the Cardiac Health Fair on Thursday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at AristaCare at Cherry Hill, 1399 Chapel Avenue West at Route 38, in Cherry Hill. Dr. Rehman’s lecture begins at noon.

The event, presented by AristaCare at Cherry Hill and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, also offers free blood pressure screenings, body fat analysis and blood glucose screenings, as well as information on stroke, heart failure and much more. A complimentary heart-healthy buffet, seated chair massages, raffles and gifts are also available.

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery by Healthgrades, the leading online healthcare resource.

Registration is required. To register, please call 1-888-LOURDES (568-7337).
