Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center Lourdes Honored for Excellence in Cardiac Surgery
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery™, and is the recipient of the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ and other honors.
Healthgrades is the leading online resource that helps consumers search, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals. Its American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2014: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, evaluates hospital performance at over 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
“We strive to be the destination hospital for cardiac care in the Delaware Valley, and being named one of America’s top hospitals for cardiac surgery is a reflection of efforts to achieve that goal,” said Alexander J. Hatala, Lourdes Health System President and CEO. “This award is also the result of the outstanding performance and leadership of Arthur Martella, MD, our chief of cardiothoracic surgery, and advance practice nurses, technicians and other skilled team members who work faithfully on behalf of our patients.”
For 2014, Healthgrades ranked Lourdes in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for pulmonary care and awarded it the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™. In addition, the organization rated Our Lady of Lourdes five stars (indicating clinical outcomes are better than expected) in the treatment of:
- Coronary bypass surgery, valve surgery, treatment of heart attack, treatment of heart failure
- Treatment of stroke
- Treatment of pneumonia
- Treatment of sepsis and respiratory failure
- Women’s health
Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County received two five stars for 2014: for appendectomy and the treatment of respiratory failure.
“As American policy-makers focus more intently on ways to lower healthcare costs and improve quality, patients are being asked to assume more responsibility for their healthcare decisions— from selection of their health plan to the associated network of physicians and hospitals,” said Evan Marks, EVP, Strategy and Informatics, Healthgrades. “Since all hospitals do not perform equally in all procedures, patients can have confidence that by selecting a physician associated with a hospital that has achieved recognition by Healthgrades, they can potentially improve outcomes and reduce costs.”
