Lourdes Executive Leadership Team

Alexander J. Hatala President and CEO

Alexander J. Hatala

President and CEO

Alexander J. Hatala, FACHE, President and CEO of Lourdes Health System, has been with Lourdes since 1986, when he joined Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center as the executive vice president and chief operating officer.  He is responsible for the overall strategy and operations of the health care system and its affiliates.

Under his leadership, Lourdes acquired the former Rancocas Hospital (now Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County) and has become one of the leading health systems in the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia region with an extensive physician network and numerous community-based ambulatory care centers. He was instrumental in Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center becoming the region’s largest provider of cardiology services and expanding the hospital’s organ transplant program (the only transplant program south of Trenton) to perform kidney, pancreas and liver transplants.

His philosophy has always been that partnerships in health care are the best way to meet the needs of the community. Not only did Lourdes acquire two of the area’s largest cardiology groups (47 physicians) in 2011, but it also implemented a cardiology co-management model. This innovative partnership is designed to have the physicians lead the operations team to drive further enhancements in clinical quality and the patient experience.

In his 26 years of leadership, Hatala has maintained a steadfast commitment to providing high-quality patient care and Lourdes’ values-based mission. In 2012, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden was recognized by HealthGrades as the No. 1 hospital in the state and among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for cardiac care. Our Lady of Lourdes has also been named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News and World Report and among the top 14 percent of hospitals in the nation by the Joint Commission.  In addition, under his leadership Our Lady of Lourdes received the American Hospital Association’s Foster McGaw award, the top national honor for service to the community.

Mr. Hatala is a member of the Board of the New Jersey Hospital Association, the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey and Samaritan Hospice. He is a member of the American Hospital Association, the New Jersey Conference of Catholic Health Care Facilities and the Greater Camden Partnership and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
