What is Primary Care Sports Medicine?

Primary care sports medicine is a subspecialty of primary care medicine provided by a physician with board-certified training in sports medicine, offering advanced diagnostics and treatment for scholastic, amateur, semiprofessional and professional athletes. Primary care physicians can be assured that specialists like Drs. Kimmel and Plut will provide a unique level of care for athletes of every rank. The center will obtain pre-authorization for all X-rays, MRIs, physical therapy and other required tests and services as approved by insurance. The center will for an orthopedic evaluation, if required, and expedite consultation from specialists.

Treatment Not Limited to "Athletes"

An individual does not have to swing a racket, run down a track or shoot a basketball to get a sports injury. Rather, sports-type injuries can occur in everyday life, such as carrying a toddler up the stairs or lifting bags of topsoil while gardening.

For those who experience foot, ankle or lower back pain because of pes planus, the center provides the most advanced balance and gait analysis available today. The computerized FootMaxx system diagnoses biomechanical foot problems, and corrective orthotic inserts are designed based on the analysis. In addition, the center has a large inventory of the newest braces and supports, which can be custom-fit in the office to ensure ideal comfort and function. We are also pleased to offer advanced high-speed video analysis.

Getting Back in the Game

In resolving a sports injury,. the center staff also works to:

We also offer multiple lines of sandal orthotics and dress orthotics. Each of our orthotics are customized to the individual and to their sports. High-Speed Video Analysis
Our physicians can use their high-speed video analysis to diagnose challenging sports medicine injuries. The same technology can be used to slow down specific movements of an athlete to optimize their performance. We can then design a customized training program to not only rehabilitate an injury, but to prevent an injury, and to improve performance. These videos can then be brought to a sport specific coach for their review as well. Many world-class runners, pitchers, and professional tennis players have benefited from our services. So can you!
