Helping Hands in the Community

A volunteer-based community outreach program designed to assist aging adults in their homes by providing help with non-medical tasks. Recipients must be registered in the program, sixty (60) years of age or older and reside in Camden County. Volunteers can be of any age. A sense of compassion and a desire to help by donating a few hours weekly or monthly is the only criteria needed to qualify as a Helping Hands volunteer. Senior Companion Program

This program offers volunteer opportunities to low income individuals aged sixty (60) and older. The service they provide helps other live independently in their homes instead of moving to expensive institutional care. Companions are given a forty (40) hours orientation/training. They also receive a non-taxable stipend of $2.65 per hour, transportation reimbursement, on-duty accident and liability insurance protection and an annual physical examination. The Senior Companion Program averages about eighty-five (85) volunteers. The volunteers serve the following counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Mercer. Foster Grandparent Program

This program provides young and old the chance to grow together. Foster Grandparents volunteer in schools, hospitals, drug treatment centers, correctional institutions, Head Start and day care centers. They help children who have been neglected, mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers, and care for pre-mature infants and children with physical disabilities. Benefits include a stipend of $2.65 per hour, transportation reimbursement, on-duty accident and liability insurance protection and an annual physical. The Foster Grandparent Program averages about eighty (80) volunteers. The volunteers service the following counties: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem. Each year the Senior Services Department hosts a luncheon for its volunteers. The luncheon is given to show appreciation to our volunteers for all they do.
