Student Programs at Lourdes Center for Public Health

Three types of fellowships are available for application. Self-designed research, the summer institute and directed research.

Self-designed Research Fellowship

Students interested in self-designed research in conjunction with academic curricula have the opportunity to propose and conduct research in a particular area of interest in Camden, New Jersey or Burlington County under the mentorship of the Center for Public Health and the advising of the student's college faculty member. Research can be utilized for individual course credit or thesis research. Research at Catholic Health East hospitals in Trenton or Newark will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for feasibility.

Research Assistantships

Students seeking to gain experience in community-based research can participate as a Research Assistant on research already being conducted in the Lourdes Health System. Students can engage in directed research throughout the year. This research will be utilized to evaluate the current health care delivery system and community health status resulting in improvement to current community health models and programs in the Camden and Burlington County Areas. Research Assistantships are geared towards students interested in public health research who are not interested in self-designed projects or may be looking for a stepping-stone to self-designed projects. Interested students should contact the Lourdes Center for Public Health for current projects available.

Summer Institute

In addition to self-designed projects, Lourdes Center for Public Health has also created the Lourdes Public Health Summer Institute, which provides students from a variety of backgrounds and institutions the opportunity to pursue projects collectively under the mentorship of the Lourdes Center for Public Health Director, Doctor Stanton Miller. In the Institute, students pursue projects at the direction of Lourdes Health System and the Lourdes Foundation to facilitate further research in the health care delivery system and community interest for direct effect on the improvement of community health models and programs in the Camden and Burlington County areas. Summer Institute projects will aim to address both Lourdes Health System needs and student participant interests. Students can expect to have an active role in the design and accomplishment of the research projects pursued. Students participating in the Summer Institute will be expected to commit 30 hours per week.
