The Lourdes Health System is committed to helping meet the health care needs
of its neighbors. For more than 30 years, the Osborn Family Health Center has
offered primary and specialty care to residents of Camden City and
surrounding municipalities, with a particular focus on providing optimal
prenatal care to women and their families.
Located in a state-of-the-art facility across the street from Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Osborn offers its many services in a quality, comfortable private-practice model setting. Osborn serves more than 45,000 patients a year. Over the past three decades, Osborn's dedicated staff has provided more than 1 million primary and specialty care visits to the poor and underserved of Camden.
Our Services
- Family Practice:
This comprehensive program provides medical care for acute and chronic illnesses. Emphasis is placed on illness prevention and health maintenance. Patients receive personalized medical care by their own physician offering continuity of care. - Obstetrics and Gynecology:
Our OB/Gyn program specializes in high-risk obstetrics, teen pregnancy and a comprehensive package of support services. The Antenatal Consultation Unit is located next to Osborn OB/Gyn and provides routine antenatal as well as highly specialized maternal fetal medicine. A board-certified perinatologist manages high-risk patients. Teens are individually case managed by a registered nurse specializing in adolescent pregnancy and all patients are offered free prenatal classes in English or Spanish. Social work and nutrition services are a key program component to assist each mother in working towards having a happy, healthy baby. Programs targeting the reduction of diabetes in children, and the prevention of preterm labor are just two of the outstanding initiatives that have made this program unique and nationally recognized. - Pediatrics:
Children receive routine well care, as well as treatment for acute and chronic pediatric illnesses. Developmental screening and preventive health care are integral components of this program. A neonatologist and specialized nurse practitioner follow all high-risk infants, managing their special medical needs. Osborn Social Services works closely with community-based organizations like Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, to offer education and support groups in our on-site classroom, as well as home-based counseling, to support all new mothers.
Osborn has distributed more than 30,000 new books to children at their well visits through a validated approach to early literacy development. The program, Reach Out and Read at Osborn, is based on a national model that trains doctors and nurses in talking with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their children and offering age-appropriate tips and encouragement. Volunteers are often seen reading to children in the waiting room or conducting reading motivational events. - Outpatient Lab Testing:
For your convenience, many outpatient lab tests are performed on location at Osborn, thus eliminating the need for patients to cross the street to the main Medical Center. - Insurance/Financial Assistance:
Osborn welcomes Medicaid, Medicare and most managed healthcare plans. For those without insurance coverage, a sliding fee schedule, based on income and family size, also is available. - Other Services:
Osborn has a used clothing boutique, which is run by a volunteer and is open to clients year round. In addition, backpack and winter coat drives put these items in the hands of those who need them most.
Our services are available Monday through Friday by appointment. Evening hours also are available for your convenience, as is 24-hour emergency telephone coverage.
Nationally Recognized for Excellence
In 1995, Lourdes was selected by the American Hospital Association as winner of the Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service for the Osborn Family Health Center. This award honors one hospital each year for its efforts and commitment to improving the health status of its community. In addition, Osborn has been recognized by the American Medical Association for our outstanding Teen Pregnancy Program; is a 1995 recipient of the Philadelphia Health Care Heroes Award for our Prenatal Program successes, and received an award from the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative recognizing outstanding dedication and service to maternal and child health care in South Jersey.For more information about Osborn programs and services, please call 856-757-3700.
