A Bariatric Center of Excellence
Under the direction of Gus Slotman, M.D., medical director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center has received a full three-year accreditation as a Center of Excellence from the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) and Surgical Review Corp. The ASBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
To earn a Center of Excellence designation, Lourdes underwent a series of site inspections during which all aspects of the program's surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected. Lourdes will continue to share information on clinical pathways, protocols and outcomes data.
In addition to providing the support and continuum of care sought by many who undergo this surgery, Lourdes also has created the Integrative Bariatric Lifestyle Program, a service that combines the surgical component with a wide array of holistic modalities-both pre- and post-surgery-to help patients make long-term positive lifestyle changes. This multidisciplinary approach to successful long-term weight-loss is a unique approach. In addition, a holistic nurse provides patients with the Peggy Huddleston program "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" workshop which national studies shown improves surgical outcomes.
