"Pretty in Pink" Event Seeks to Fight Breast Cancer through Inspiration and Education

Beginning in October, "Pretty in Pink," the breast health education and awareness organization, launches its annual series of programs to educate women about the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer and how being proactive can positively change the outcome of the disease.

The spiritual-based event includes among its activities, inspirational speakers, readings of scripture and an educational lecture featuring Kathleen Greatrex, M.D., Chief of Radiology for Lourdes Health System, who will speak about the significance of mammogram screenings and how they save women's lives.

"Pretty in Pink" was created in honor of Jeannette Johnson, best friend of "Pretty in Pink" founder Michelle Vaughn, who died of breast cancer in November 2004. The program is aimed at but not exclusive to African-American women, who are more likely than all other women to die from breast cancer.
