Expanded boutique will help serve more women with cancer in the community
The Lourdes Caring Boutique has recently undergone a significant facelift. The renovations, which began in November and were completed late last month, are part of an effort to not only update and beautify the space, but to expand it in hopes of serving the needs of more South Jersey women battling cancer.
Renovations of the Lourdes Caring Boutique were made possible thanks to the proceeds from the Project Pink Fashion Show hosted by the health system this past October. Improvements made to the boutique include new light fixtures, several feet of expanded space, fresh paint in neutral and uplifting colors, an updated bathroom with a new sink and light fixtures as well as beautiful hard wood floors throughout. The boutique is also awaiting the arrival of new glass cases to display the variety of wig options available.
"The expansion of the boutique will allow us to help more women with cancer," said Jackie Miller, RN, a patient navigator who works with women at the Caring Boutique. "We understand that women need more than just medical care when dealing with cancer. They are also dealing with issues of how they look and feel. The Lourdes Caring Boutique is a great resource for those who don't have access or the financial ability to purchase these items for themselves."
In collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the Caring Boutique, which helps an average of 60 women annually and is located on the campus of Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, offers a variety of items including wigs, hats and temporary and permanent prostheses including bras and pillows. The boutique is open to all women in the community with cancer, not just Lourdes patients, and all of the items are provided completely free of charge.
"The Lourdes Caring Boutique is a great place for women with cancer to go to find the best resources for them that make them feel good about themselves. Even better, we get to have fun and play
dress up in a nice environment that is part of the hospital, yet doesn't feel clinical," said Randi Solden, RN, a patient navigator who also works with women at the boutique. "We want the women we serve to walk out of here feeling special and beautiful. We want to touch their lives like they so deeply touch ours."
