Monday, December 21, 2009
To improve the lives of those living with diabetes, reduce complications and help avoid frequent hospitalizations, the Lourdes Health System announces the establishment of the ABC Diabetes Education Program.
Diabetes is growing epidemic in the United States, with more than 23 million currently diagnosed. Many more are undiagnosed. For people with diabetes, staying healthy requires education.
"With diabetes on the rise, we recognize that education is the best way to help people manage their diabetes," said Kathryn Friedman, Director of Integrative Health Care at the Lourdes Wellness Center. "We can also lower health care costs in the long run, by helping people avoid the complications of diabetes and stay healthy, now and in the future."
The Lourdes ABC Diabetes program offers comprehensive, convenient diabetes care that is provided through individual consultations and group education classes. It employs the latest innovative teaching tools to educate and motivate clients toward better diabetes self-management and encourages family involvement. Classes are conveniently scheduled and located at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, the Lourdes Wellness Center in Collingswood and other community-based sites.
The program, which is recognized by the American Diabetes Association, is led by Certified Diabetes Educators. The classes are designed to be highly interactive, in an atmosphere that is relaxed and supportive. To learn more, call toll-free at 1- 877- 533- 4222.
