BACKGROUND: Each year since the devastating events of September 11, 2001, the Spiritual Care Department at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County has hosted a ceremony of remembrance to mark the anniversary of the deadly attacks. This annual service has brought the hospital community together to remember the victims of September 11 and their families, to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of all those who responded to the attacks eight years ago, and to pray for our government leaders and for the members of our nation's armed forces who work everyday to protect us and our freedom.

To honor all those who have served in uniform, a hospital representative will lay a wreath at the flagpole, and all in attendance will be invited to join the hospital community in singing patriotic songs and hymns of peace and hope. The service is open to the public, and local law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency services personnel and members of the military are invited to attend.

Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, a 249-bed community hospital, is part of Lourdes Health System, which includes Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. Lourdes Health System is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y. and is a member of Catholic Health East, a health system with 34 hospitals in 11 eastern states.
