Work Begins on New Satellite Emergency Department
Donning hard hats, executives from Deborah Heart and Lung Center and Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County wielded sledgehammers recently to launch the construction of a new satellite emergency department at Deborah's Browns Mills campus. Operated by Lourdes and scheduled to open in March 2010, the fully equipped, 24-hour satellite emergency department will improve accessibility to emergency care for many Burlington and Ocean County families.

"We are excited by this partnership with Deborah, which demonstrates how healthcare providers can work cooperatively to improve access to care without duplicating services," said Alexander J. Hatala, president and CEO of Catholic Health East New Jersey and Lourdes Health System. "In addition to providing area residents with access to a renowned heart hospital, we are proud to offer access to top-quality emergency care close to home and the range of inpatient and outpatient services available at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro."

Farm-Fresh Produce is Now As Close As…Your Nearest Hospital!
This summer, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County introduced a new indoor farmer's market in conjunction with a local farm. The market will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday through the end of October in the hospital's cafeteria.

"The goal of the farmer's market is to provide staff and visitors the opportunity to purchase fresh, affordable produce," said Eugene Johnson, the hospital's chief executive officer. "Because produce should be a staple in every person's diet, this new venture is in line with our mission to be a healing presence in the communities we serve."

With the addition of this market, the Lourdes Health System now offers farmer's markets on both campuses. Since 2007, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden has partnered with the Camden Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in offering a farmer's market on the hospital campus. Our Lady of Lourdes Farmer's Market is held every Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. through early November in the parking lot across from the main entrance. Both markets accept senior and WIC produce vouchers in addition to cash.
