Support for Parents of Premature Babies

The excitement of having a new baby often is replaced with fear and worry for parents whose babies are born extremely prematurely or with severe medical problems. Thanks to a $35,000 grant from the Starlight- Starbright Foundation NY*NJ*CT, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center will develop new initiatives to ease their situation.

The Intensive Care Nursery Family Support Program will focus on supporting the needs of infants, parents and siblings -- both while at the hospital for care as well as when they are discharged. The program will feature infant care packs, Sunday coffee hour for parents, sibling events, exploration activities, journaling, Q&A sessions, personalized Web pages, education sessions and celebration activities. The Lourdes Intensive Care Nursery is a state-designated Level III Regional Perinatal Center and has been providing care for more than 30 years.
