Lourdes' daVinci System Available for Gynecologic Surgery
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center now offers gynecologic surgery using the da Vinci S Robotic Surgical System. Howard M. Saul, D.O., and Gerald V. Burke, M.D., perform hysterectomies, fibroid removals (myomectomies) and ovary removals with the da Vinci.
Following robot-assisted surgery, patients typically experience:
- less pain, blood loss and scarring;
- reduced risk of infection;
- shorter hospital stays;
- faster return to normal activities.
"The decreased amount of postoperative pain is dramatic," said Dr. Burke. Dr. Saul, a gynecologic oncologist, said the dexterity and fine suturing ability of the da Vinci helped him remove a large uterine fibroid without excess bleeding, a surgery that would have been impossible with traditional laparoscopic techniques.
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in the region equipped with the latest version of the da Vinci system. Lourdes began offering robotic-assisted prostate surgeries last year.
