Alexander J. Hatala
President and CEO

Mr. Hatala is the Chief Executive Officer of Our Lady of Lourdes Health System. He is responsible for the performance and overall management of the systems and their affiliates. Mr. Hatala is a member of the Board of the New Jersey Hospital Association. He is a member of the American Hospital Association, the New Jersey Conference of Catholic Health Care Facilities and the Greater Camden Partnership and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.


Kimberly D. Barnes
Vice President, Planning and Development
and Executive Director, Lourdes Health Foundation


Ms. Barnes directs the health system planning process including the ten year strategic plan, the health system operating plan and service line plans. She also oversees all activities related to marketing, public relations, fundraising and grants. Ms. Barnes sits on the Board of the Cherry Hill Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Camden Coalition of Health Care Providers.

Joanne Gianndrea

Ms. Gianndrea directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the following departments including Imaging Services, Laboratory and Infection Control, Respiratory Therapy and other ancillary services. She is also serves as the liaison to the Lourdes/MegaBase partnership. Ms. Gianndrea is a member of the Burlington County Military Affairs Committee.


Michael Hammond

Mr. Hammond is responsible for defining and establishing the necessary management and accountability systems to support a customer-driven, results-oriented, physician-responsive and high-performance finance and managed care function. He is responsible for the following key functions: social accountability reporting (charity care and community services): financial accounting and reporting; managerial accounting and reporting (financial analysis, planning, budgeting. and cost reporting); patient financial services; managed are strategy and contracting; and third party reimbursement, materials management and patient access.


Barbara A. Holfelner, RN, MSN

Chief Compliance Officer

Ms. Holfelner oversees all aspects of the Corporate Compliance Program of Lourdes Health System, ensuring ethical practices and standards of conduct. She is responsible for the organization and administration of Patient Safety and Risk Management, which includes Infection Control, Employee Health and Workers’ Compensation. Ms. Holfelner is a member of the Samaritan Hospice Quality Committee and is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives Advisory Board.


Maureen Hetu

Ms. Hetu is responsible for all aspects of the organization's information technology and systems. She provides leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives. Ms. Hetu directs the planning and implementation of enterprise IT systems in support of business operations. Ms. Hetu is an active member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Finance Committee.


Richard Kropp

Mr. Kropp is responsible for developing and implementing the health system’s human resources strategy and programs. He provides leadership for all human resources functions for the health system, including recruitment, retention, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training and organizational development.


Mark Nessel

Mr. Nessel oversees operations for Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of both hospital facilities and implementing the health system’s strategy. He provides leadership oversight for the development of high quality and cost-effective services. Mr. Nessel is responsible for enforcing procedures to ensure patient and physician satisfaction as well as high employee morale.


Sr. Helen Owens, OSF

Sr. Helen ensures that mission, vision and values are represented in all Lourdes processes, such as planning, leadership development and budgeting. Additionally, Sr. Helen is responsible for ensuring that mission intergrity is preserved and promoted throughout the organization. She oversees the Lourdes Wellness Center and Lourdes' Community Outreach programs. Sr. Helen works closely with these programs to guarantee they are addressing and meeting the needs of the communities they serve.

Alan Pope, M.D.

Dr. Pope is responsible for the development and implementation of medical staff strategic planning and oversight, and the organization, planning and direction of clinical diagnostic, medical education, research, and performance improvement and case management functions. He has authority over all clinical departments and ensures the concerns of the Medical Staff are represented and addressed.

Robert E. Ruggero

Mr. Ruggero provides administrative direction to Materials Management, Facilities Management, Biomedical, Food and Nutrition, Pharmacy, Rehab and Post Acute Services, Security Laboratory Medicine Support Services. He identifies and provides resources to support the Health System's strategic initiatives and assists departments with the development and implementation of their department goals. Mr. Ruggero is a member of the Lions Club and the Samaritan Hospice Board.

Jennifer Schwartz, Esq.
General Counsel
Lourdes Health System


Ms. Schwartz conducts all legal work for Lourdes Health System and its subsidiary corporations. In this role she is responsible for business contracts and negotiations, acquisitions and mergers; joint-ventures and alternative business arrangements; anti-trust investigations; risk management, employment and labor matters and health system litigation. Ms. Schwartz also provides legal advice on daily matters and business and strategic activities affecting Lourdes Health System.

Sr. Margaret Sullivan, OSF

Sr. Marge ensures the Lourdes mission, vision and values are integrated throughout the culture of Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County. She also serves as the liaison to local Church, religious and civic communities. Sr. Marge sits on the Boards of the Burlington County Community Health Advisory Group and the St. Joseph Regional Health Network.
